This position provides marketing and business development support for the California offices of an AMLAW 100 firm (Irvine, Palo Alto). The Regional Manager works with key stakeholders of these offices and with the marketing and business development team to specific marketing, business development, client retention and expansion objectives.

Work with Director of Marketing and Business Development and Partners in Charge of the Southern Californai and Palo Alto offices, partners and others in marketing to develop marketing strategies and implement specific actions that support the firm’s strategic goals and the objectives for the offices, practice areas and attorneys that are within areas of responsibility.

Work with practice leaders and individual attorneys in defining, developing and executing business development initiatives.

Champion new business development initiatives and assist individual, client teams and practices groups in their implementation. Assist in development of team approach to client development, cross-selling and client service.

Act as a marketing coach to attorneys, providing support, training and techniques targeted to achievement of their business development goals.

Plan, manage and oversee local marketing budgets. Prioritize and allocate resources in a manner that will support the priorities of the firm’s strategic plan and will result in a significant return on investment.

Work with attorneys to manage and develop tailored marketing materials consistent with firm-wide sales and marketing materials for client and prospective client presentations. In coordination with Director of Business Development, assist attorneys in preparing flipbooks, prospect and client capabilities presentations and responses to RFP’s.

Collect and report results of business development meetings and determine and share best practices with attorneys.

Direct research on clients, prospects and others, as necessary. Direct additional research on industries, markets, etc., as necessary.

Oversee maintenance of appropriate mailing lists and other local contacts.

Initiate and manage local and/or regional seminars, receptions and special events. Direct and manage related databases and mailing lists. Conduct advance and follow up activities related to events.

In coordination with Communications Manager, manage West Coast public relations activities including media strategy, press releases, announcements, pitch ideas, byline articles, etc.

Create and/or update entries for local and regional legal directories, such as Chambers.

Research and suggest regional and local sponsorships.

Initiate and manage solicitation of speaking engagements for attorneys and firm leadership.

Work with assigned practice group leaders to acquire and track information on successful deals, cases, etc. Coordinate the flow of information from attorneys and the office to other marketing staff, including attorney biographies, practice descriptions, news and marketing activities data.

Specific requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Marketing or Public Relations.
- 5 years of professional services marketing-related experience, preferably in a law firm.
- Ability to work with and coach senior partners in business development opportunities.
- Strong writing, presentation and organizational skills.
- Drive and enthusiasm to work and complete assignments under tight scheduling deadlines in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated customer service focus and team-first orientation
- Ability to respond quickly under tight deadline pressure with minimal errors
- Proven creativity, conceptual skills development and resourcefulness, as well as demonstrated experience effecting organizational initiative and vision
- Excellent consultative and consensus-building skills in working with attorneys
- Organizational and political savvy in working within a large law firm
- Ability to negotiate individual, group and firm-wide needs and to interface successfully with multiple levels of business development team (partners, associates, legal support staff and other marketing staff).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the firm’s entire marketing staff.
