Richmond Duo Work as Attorneys to the Stars

Kirk Schroder

Kirk Schroder lets out a glad-that's-over laugh when he remembers negotiating the 1993 appearance of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev at the Richmond Forum.

At the time, Schroder was legal counsel for the series and had negotiated deals with Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

"At the time, Gorbachev's wife was ill. It came down to the wire as to whether he was going to get on the plane to come to Virginia," Schroder recalled.

Schroder, who was recently elected chairman-elect of the American Bar Association Entertainment and Sports Law Section, is one-half of the two-man law firm Schroder Fidlow PLC. Schroder and partner Bennett Fidlow specialize in entertainment law.

The two opened their boutique law firm in the Superior Building in 2003. The firm focuses on issues related to motion picture, television and radio broadcasting; literary publishing; music and music publishing; multimedia/Internet; visual arts and theater.

Schroder and Fidlow also serve as counsel for public speakers, advertising and marketing firms and personalities such as John J. Oliver, a professional psychic who stars in Court TV's "Haunting Evidence."
